On Saturday, April 27, a fish fair will be held in Varnja in cooperation with the Open Fishing Ports Day in the port of Varnja. The Varnja fish fair, which has become the opening event of the spring season in the Onion Route region, has been organized since 2015. In addition to fish products, you can also find plants, handicrafts, delicious food and drink at the fair – in total, nearly 100 traders are present.

Peipsi fish and fish products are offered by Varnja harbor, Kolkja Kalapunkt and Peipsi Kalapunkt from the town of Kallaste. With fish dishes, the fair fills the belly with tastes of Peipsimehe Maitsed.

A trampoline is provided for children, and Tamme horse farm offers horse rides and a mini zoo. In the port of Varnja, boat trips to Peipus take place all the time, and tours introducing the port work take place on the half hour (9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.). The fishing competition, which is won by the participant who caught the most fish, starts at 10 a.m. The competition lasts two hours.

The organizers ask guests to park at the entrance to Varnja before the store and definitely not to park at or near the bus stop. We also recommend VONK – bring your own dishes, even a cup and a spoon and a fork, with which to enjoy the food on the spot.

On the day of the fair, the Samovar House (9am-3pm) and the Varnja Living History Museum (10am-3pm) are open in Varnja.

Additional information is provided by the organizer Herling Mesi (phone 5668 1154).

The Varnja Fish Fair is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 additional program.
