The Onion Route Buffet Day No 4 takes place on September 14, 2019!

  • Buffets are open from 10am to 6pm in any weather. Wear appropriate clothes!
  • Most buffets take cash only.
  • Several buffets offer jams and conserves for winter, as well as fresh garden produce for sale.

NB! Traffic arrangements in Varnja have been changed for the day (road from the village to the Prayer house is one-direction only, open direction from Varnja to Kolkja; bypass is through Varnja-Alatskivi road, behind the village).

Below is the list of open buffets on direction from Tartu up north along the shore of Lake Peipus with their popular dishes and entertainment. If you want to see more information and pictures, click on the name, and the link will take you to the buffet introduction on the event’s Facebook page.

* Wealthy Mommy’s Pantry in Vara village. Chanterelle soup, pies, sweet treats. Lottery, pottery sale, jams and marinades to take home with you. NB! Opens at 9am.
* Brewer’s Buffet Juhus (random chance) in Koosa Village. Zander tartar, beer jelly, onion soup. Beere tasting, beer exposition, live music.
* Julia & Kohvik buffet in Varnja. Soups and pies, cheeseburgers.
* Mesi Tare buffet in Varnja village. Fish dishes, snetovitsa, baked goods. Children’s corner.
* Voronja Gallery buffet in Varnja village. Gustjaha, leprosy, gunba, razgonochnyi. This summer’s exhibition, a children’s play area and an apple tree house are open for the last day.
* Latika buffet in Kasepää village. Smelt soup, pies. Onions for sale.
* Kostya’s Onion buffet in Kolkja village. Onion pies, onions for sale.
* Aunt Shura’s buffet in Kolkja. Foods made of chicory, onion and fish. At 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 pm the folk band Kolkja Bõlitsa will perform. Writer Pavel Varunin presenting his Rääbu books and reading excerpts. Fabric print workshops, handicraft sales.
* Buffet Number 7 in Kolkja village. Selyanka, pilaff, pancakes, pies. Onions for sale.
* Aljonushka buffet in Kolkja village. Pies, soups, rich cake counter. Children’s play area.
* Nostalgic Diner buffet in Alatskivi. Liver sauce, cutlets, old school salads, range of pies. Video disco, activities for children.
* Buffet Näljase Ratse Lokaal in Alatskivi. Burgers, cakes, 90s style drinks. On-site beverage preparation workshops.
* Nina Kordon buffet at Nina Village. Pancakes, cottage cheese tarts, fish cake, satay. Open antique warehouse.
* Vaino Dvor buffet in Nina village. Smoked fish, onion soup, hot pies and pastries. Romantic terrace by the lake Peipsi.
* Pindi-Järve buffet in Nina village. Fish and fries, soups, curd balls, smoked vendace.
* Fisherman’s buffet in Nina village. Borsch, pies, deep-fried fresh fish. Treasure hunt for kids.
* MariMummu buffet in the village of Alasoo. Uhhaa with pie, chicken dishes, cinnamon buns. Animal corner, craft workshops, children’s corner.
* Buffet Vigurid in Pusi village. Meat pies, vendace snacks, pastries.
* Pullitalli buffet in Kadrina village. Oatmeal, pavlovas, manor bread. Felt fairy workshops, photo corner, after party at 6pm.
* Sepa farm Garlic buffet in Haavakivi village. Chanterelle-buckwheat wok, fudge cakes, garlic jams and conserves. Activities for children.
* Kodavere Youth Buffet “Ah, come eat!” in Pala village. Local sandwich, pumpkin puree soup, snowy Christmas stars. Since 12 o’clock, young people will be performing music and carriage races will be taking place.
* Kokora Housewives buffet in Kokora village. Pork fillet, grilled quail, onion ice cream. Miniature Zoo.
* Koo and Kosu buffet in Torila village. Camomile foam, pumpkin soup with quail eggs, onion pies. Weaving on looms, textile exhibition, sing-alongs since 1 pm

Each buffet also has a printed day card, which also serves as a stamp game. Visit at least seven buffets, taste the yummies (or make a small purchase) and ask for a stamp on your card. Leave the card filled with contacts in the last buffet you visit. We will draw the prizes on September 23rd.
